Have you ever wondered where Gray Sea Glass originates from?

Gray Sea Glass is assumed to have been produced from a combination of copper, manganese and iron oxidizing when sunlight was introduced to the glass.  There are several unique hues that have resulted from this process including shades of blue gray and dark midnight gray. Many pieces are said to have originated from antiques, most likely stemware, dating back over 100 years.  The flatter shards of gray appear to be from tinted glass that has tumbled in the worlds ocean for many decades.

Many avid collectors tend to seek the brilliant colors such as turquoise, aqua blue and red, and find them to be the most desired, yet, it is one of my favorite colors to work with when designing sea glass jewelry.   These gems, with their mysterious and smokey hues, perfectly compliment the sterling silver accents.

Gray Sea Glass is a rare find and a truly treasued gift from the sea.
